![]() Carrefour Wine Fair is back again in Oct. This time the theme is 'around-the-world'... Check it out at Carrefour Suntec City Atrium from 1Oct - 12 Oct 2008.
[Field Report - 9 Oct 2008] Carrefour themed their October wine fair as "around-the-world", although it doesn't appear to be much different from their previous fair. There were certainly no display of wines from emerging wine market such as India, Thailand or China. So I felt it was not aptly called.
As I scoured around, I found many good picks, some decently priced. Those worth mentioning (ya, they were all french) were Reserve de la Comtesse 2005 ($69.90), Chateau E'NCLOS 2005 ($53), Chateau Maro de Saint Amant 2005 ($39.90). There were sizeably more 1st growth and 2nd growth wine such as Chateau Haut Brion 2003, Chateau Leoville Barton 2005 and not to mentioned Domaine De Chevalier 2005 ($132) but I wouldn't mention them here because they were all out of my budget this time round. I was particularly impressed by a Caucasian guy who introduced to me Chateau Maro De Saint Amant, as he patiently explained about the wine, the variety and how great 2005 was for French wine, while pouring me some sample to try. I was rather surprised when he told me that he is not from Carrefour, but from a distributor who supply wine to hotels and restaurants. My afterthought was that if only Carrefour provide such great service as well. Nevertheless, that was my venture down at the fair. I'm pretty sure I had missed out some Australian and Californian bargain, but well, my sight was set at the French 2005 vintage. Guess when the hype within me died down, I'll be back for some affordable and great Australian red.
