Whoever says that good wine can only be enjoyed in a posh and up-market Wine & Dine joint, I would beg to defer. While I wouldn't deny that the ambience in such places is something to die for, with every setting precisely tailored to make you feel like a billionaire siping away on a bottle of $3000 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, I am sure many wine enthusiasts like myself realised that good wines are especially good, if enjoyed with a good company regardless of the price of the wine or whether the setting was award winning. That was exactly what happened this evening... Mr Daniel Lim, owner of Cellar Deluxe was very gracious to have inivited me and my fellow wine enthusiasts to his retail outlet at Thomson Plaza for an evening of wine tasting. Filled with suspense and anticipation how the evening would turn out, we arrived to his shop at about 7:30pm to be greeted by Daniel's hospitable welcome as he ushered us into his shop, whipped out a tasting glass filled with red and said "Try this, I've breath the wine for an hour". The Heathfield Ridge Shiraz 2002 from South Australia was immensely delicious, elegant with silky smooth texture filled with rich mouth-filling concentration of ripe berries fruits that reminds me of the Glaetzer Shiraz 1996 albeit at almost twice the price of Heathfield. Next we tried Barking Mad Shiraz 2006 also from South Australia. This young wine was slightly bolder than Heathfield but carried it own unique style. I could whiff out aromatic vanilla straw and touch of spices. As we further breath the wine, multi-layer of cappuccino, plum and black fruits unfolded. Feeling satisfied, we cosy up and had a hearty chat with Daniel and his 2 other visitors, Alexis and Yiru, as we shared about their experiences and adventures in the Australian wine making trips.
The setting in Cellar Deluxe was definitely not award-winning, but it carries a distinct friendly and laid-back style reminiscent of rustic Australian cellar doors, with nicely litted orange lights that makes you feel immediately at ease. Whether good wine makes a fine company or a fine company makes the wine good, our consensus was that tonight we have tasted some great wines. And to further top up his hospitability, Daniel said is glad to extend a further 5% discount on his already reasonably priced bottled selection to WineAtLeisure members. This is definitely a score for our wine enthusiast community! For Daniel, I say thanks for the great evening! PS: I am at the moment finializing the details. Please check back soon for more details in our Members Excusive forum section on how to enjoy the discounts. |
