Few probably realised that Chateau Bernadotte was owned by Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, a renowned 2nd growth in Paullic region which most discerning wine connossieurs would never doubt its quality. Better still, this very wine from Chateau Bernadotte was produced non others than by the same team who produces the famous wine of Chateau Pichon. Now, who says you have to pay through your nose to taste fine wine?

The 2005 Chateau Bernadotte is a gem waiting to be discovered. For $40 you get to taste the mastery of one of the best Bordeaux winemaker in France. Owning this bottle of Chateau Bernadotte was really a coincidence. Like any routine shopping in Carrefour, my trip ecompasses visiting the wine section as part of the experience. Last Sunday, I met up with 2 complete strangers in the Carrefour's French cellar section. Both were contesting about french wines with colourful and expensive wine jargons, as if they were verbally sparring on who have had the most expensive wine or maybe $$$$; to put it in perspective. As I completely ignored their ranting and walk away, I chanced upon the striking $39.90 price tag, followed by 'Chateau Bernadotte'. Immediately my bargain instincts acted on me and somehow involunteerily picked up a bottle.

Ihis is definitely no regrets. Packed and oozing with rich handsome cherry fruits and strawberrys, this crimson full-bodied wine displays  ting of orangy zestiness and mints on the nose. All of a sudden, I felt like being carried into a summer fruit farm galore. The structure was complex and tannin well balance and smooth. Each sip of the wine brought suspenses as I eagerly anticpiate the layers of dark chocolate, vanilla  and concentrated cassis unveils. The finishing was incredibly powerful and lengthy with sweet and fruity lingering taste diffusing on the palate.

This is an absolutely real winner! For $40, what esle could you ask for? You get to taste the masterful creation from Chateau Pichon's team at a fraction of the price.  Grab a few to cellar. I promise you won't regret. You get 5-10% discount if you have POSB credit card.
